ABSTRACT

Table tennis players have various styles and use different techniques for striking the ball. The style and technique of highly skilled players are different from less skilled players. Typically the speed of shot is greater (126 km.h-1), there is more ball spin (7,500-9,000 rev.s-1) which produce more demanding ball trajectories, and there is a need for greater levels of control and timing (Kasai, 1982; Yamaoka, 1975; Kasai, 1993). Detailed information concerning the 3D characteristics of technique in table tennis is lacking. It was the purpose of this study to define selected 3D kinematic characteristics of a forehand smash of highly skilled table tennis players.
