ABSTRACT

Recent successes within British junior tennis have included James Baily who won the Junior Australian Open title in 1994, Martin Lee and James Trotman who won the Wimbledon Junior Doubles title in 1995 and Martin Lee who became number one in the junior World Rankings during 1996. Despite success at this level there is still no evidence of British senior players making the same impact on the elite levels of tennis. With the emergence of new nations on the tennis scene, such as Croatia, Ukraine, Czech Republic and Slovakia, a set of stronger junior players has been created who are capable of performing on any of the courts used on the international circuit.
