ABSTRACT

Objects need to be designed but also constructed or manufactured, tested or commissioned for buildings, delivered to the client, operated by end-users, and finally maintained to extend their life cycle. All along this path and within each phase, a continuous data stream must flow between the various actors (i.e. designers, engineers, manufacturers, etc.) needing the information. Important cost saving can be achieved, not only at the design stage, but during the entire life cycle of the products if the information is modelled in the appropriate manner and moreover survives the particular phases where it has been generated. Modelling in formal ways, representing according to many logical schemas and exchanging information based on open and neutral technologies are key requirements for any software platforms supporting CIME objectives.
