ABSTRACT

This chapter is concerned with the changing nature of personnel or human resource management (HRM) activities in professional practices and the challenges facing those responsible for such activities, especially for the structured training of professional staff, which will be considered later. To provide a framework for understanding some of these changes, a model of HRM activities in professional practices is presented. The model emphasizes the role of HRM as an agent of change and outlines some of the skills required by practice managers responsible for such activities.
