ABSTRACT
This paper provides preliminary results from research into specialist trades contractor’s design development, and in particular the mechanical and electrical services works. Inherent design and coordination problems are concentrated in combined service areas and the main causes are incorrect and inadequate detailing; a lack of experience of designers and constructors; inadequate funds and resources for design and construction; and, unclear definition of responsibilities.
