ABSTRACT
Knowledge Based Expert Systems (KBES) have provided construction engineers with yet another effective tool for decision making of construction related problems. This paper describes the development of FIDIC-EXPERT which is a knowledge-based expert system for the analysis of construction claims in accordance with the Federation Internationale des Ingenieurs-Conseils (FIDIC) conditions of contract. The expert system shell INSIGHT 2 + is used to develop the knowledge base in the form of a series of IF-THEN production rules, using a backward chaining goal searching strategy.
