ABSTRACT
In the UK, availability of water is normally taken for granted and is only given any widespread attention in particularly dry summers with their resultant hosepipe bans. But such an attitude is ultimately short sighted. Water is an essential natural resource whose collection, storage, treatment and distribution all have economic and energy costs. Schools alone spend approximately £70 million annually on water.1
