ABSTRACT
This chapter deals principally with surveying in connection with tunnelling or excavation-related movements and associated mitigation measures. Many techniques will be applicable regardless of the mechanism causing the structural movement. Each type of structural monitoring has its own particular advantages and limitations and this chapter identifies the place of surveying within an integrated monitoring system. The focus is on approach rather than on particular instruments which would quickly become out of date (Figure 5.1).
