ABSTRACT
Several months ago, Chira Banda, an east African immigrant, severely injured her back in an automobile accident. She currently receives physical therapy treatment at a local clinic twice a week and the muscle spasms in her back are improving. Ms. Banda’s therapist noticed a red string tied around her waist, but she has been reluctant to inquire about its purpose.
