ABSTRACT

The information presented in this chapter has broad implications and pragmatic value for students enrolled in programs of nursing and in the allied health professions of physical therapy, nursing, respiratory therapy, speech and language pathology, occupational therapy, cardiopulmonary sciences, and exercise physiology. However, this chapter is also designed for use by a diverse professional audience including novice allied health practitioners, managers, faculty, and policymakers. It is important to realize that collaborative skills learned and practiced in the classroom are transferable to clinical practice and any work environment. This is true because the principles of collaboration, whether used in the classroom, in the clinical setting, or with an interdisciplinary team in academia, follow the same theoretical framework.
