Control of pain and inflammation This includes protection, rest, ice, compression, elevation, medication (NSAIDs) and other modalities. Corticosteroid injections have therapeutic and diagnostic values, but recurrence of symptoms is not uncommon (must be extremely careful not to inject the ulnar nerve). Modalities used include ultrasound, heat/cold modalities, shock-wave therapy, laser, iontophoresis, acupuncture and massage therapy.
