ABSTRACT

The value of a patent largely counts when a patent technology becomes a standard that is used widely in the industry. It is possible for a holder of a patent right to acquire a huge licence fee from many licensees under several circumstances. This includes such circumstances where a certain standard has to be adopted to make a patent a product and where a certain patent technology has to be used for this purpose. Recently, many companies are pursuing the strategy that in general a standard is established to favour their companies and, in particular, that their patent technology, if possible, is incorporated into a standard.
