ABSTRACT
A study, in the light of modern knowledge, of a prescription from one manuscript in Dunhuang yiyao wenxian jijiao 敦煌醫藥文獻輯校 (The Dunhuang Medical Texts Edited and Collated) gives considerable insight into the perspicuity of physicians in medieval China. 2 Before attempting to understand scientifically the procedure described for the treatment of cardiovascular dysfunction, we must first consider the provenance of the text and its translation into English.
