ABSTRACT

American recording industry executive, and conductor, born in Chicopee, Massachusetts. He studied organ in Paris with Charles-Marie Widor, and was A&R head for Victor, with responsibility for Red Seal records, 1930-1944. From 1944 to 1947 he headed the masterworks division of Columbia Records. He was conductor of studio orchestras for both labels. O’Connell wrote the Victor Book of the Symphony (1934) and contributed to revisions of the Victor Book of the Opera. He died in New York.
