ABSTRACT
Italian baritone, born in Zara. After a debut in Cremona in 1878, he sang in many Italian houses. Chosen by Verdi, he created the role of Ford in Falstaff at La Scala in 1893. He was with the Metropolitan Opera from 1899 to 1901 and from 1909 to 1914, recognized as one of the greatest portrayers of buffo roles like Leporello and Dr. Bartolo, as well as Ford. He died in Milan.
