ABSTRACT
The earliest stamps to illustrate a phonograph record were issued in Argentina in 1939 (Scott Catalog #470 and #472); they were promoting the use of flexible discs for mailing messages. A number of commemorative stamps that showed audio equipment or personalities of sound recording history were printed for the phonograph centenary year of 1977. The audio category is considered here to be separate from the much larger category of music and musicians on stamps.
