ABSTRACT

American military band director, pianist, and organist; born in San Francisco. Prince’s first recordings were made for the New York Phonograph Co. in 1891 as a pianist. He was the musical director for Columbia from the late 1890s, and conductor of the Columbia Orchestra/Columbia Band from about 1902-1903 until 1905, succeeding Fred Hager. After 1905 he directed Prince’s Band and Prince’s Orchestra. He retired to California in the late 1920s, and died in San Francisco.
