ABSTRACT

A trade organization established in 1952. Its membership is open to “Legitimate record companies with main offices in the United States that are engaged in the production and sale, under their own brand label, of recordings of performances for home use.” Its purpose is to promote the interests of the industry and to “foster good relations among all concerned” with it. Among its active concerns are record piracy, technical standards, freedom of speech, copyright, music and the web, licensing and royalties, audio technologies, and rewards for achievement.
