ABSTRACT

From Latin rock innovators in the late 1960s, the group-essentially guitarist Carlos Santana (b. Autlán de Navarro, Mexico, 20 July 1947) and a continually changing cast of rock journeymen, session players, and guest stars-has flirted with psychedelia, electric blues, jazz fusion, and pop influences within a broad progressive rock context. Relegated to commercial limbo for the better part of two decades, Santana revived his career in the late 1990s, receiving nine Grammys for the best-selling LP, Supernatural (Arista #19080; 1999; #1).
