ABSTRACT
A common designation for the reproducer of an acoustic phonograph; it is usually applied to disc machines. Its parts are the diaphragm, needle arm and screw, spring, cushions, casing, and gasket. It was supplanted in the electric era by the cartridge, or pickup.
