ABSTRACT

Italian baritone, born in Casalecchio. He studied in Bologna and made his debut there in 1898, as Marcello. From 1904 to 1906 he was with LaScala; in 1905 he sang at Covent Garden. His Metropolitan Opera debut was as Germont on 1 Dec 1906; he remained through 1908 with the company, then went to Europe and South America. The 19171918 season found him in Chicago, after which he sang widely in the U.S. and Europe to 1942. He died in Rome.
