ABSTRACT
Foremost among the introspective solo singer-songwriters who charted an early 1970s direction away from the band music of the late 1960s was James Taylor. The worldweariness and melancholy of his simple folk-blues guitar and voice seemed the perfect alternative to the excesses of the 1960s, some of which-like heroin-the young Taylor was caught up in.
