ABSTRACT

American baritone, born in Meyersdale, Pennsylvania. He studied at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, then sang in New York musicals. Turning to the concert stage he found immediate success. He also sang opera in Brussels, Covent Garden, Chicago, and elsewhere; then at the Metropolitan Opera, with a debut on 2 Feb 1934 as Germont, and a stay of 20 years. Thomas retired to California and died in Apple Valley.
