ABSTRACT

A London hotel ensemble that recorded for the Gramophone Co. in 1898 and 1899, producing some of the earliest dance music on record. They also played marches and selections from opera, beginning with “Hip Hip Hurrah March.” The Trocadero recordings of “La Marseillaise” and of the Austrian and Prussian national anthems (all in September 1898) appear to be the earliest disc recordings of that genre.
