ABSTRACT

Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Whyte came to the U.S. in 1924, and ended up working as an assistant to the director of the British Ministry of War Transport, prior to the U.S. entering World War II. When the war began, he joined the Army and served in the medical corps. In 1949 he went to work for Concord Radio, in Chicago, moved on to Magnecord, and then ended up working for Loew’s/MGM in New York. During this time, he learned a great deal about recording techniques and recording technology.
