ABSTRACT
That statement is too simplistic: Israeli politics, culture, and religion are deeply influenced by traditional experiences, outlooks and behaviour patterns of the diaspora and by relations with it. This relationship has caused many Israeli Jews to be concerned about their identity and to ask whether they are Jews or Israelismuch as Jews in the diaspora have asked themselves whether they were primarily Jews or, respectively, Americans, French or British.
