International Interests and Foreign Policy Priorities of Mexican Americans

Any discussion of the foreign policy and international interests, priorities, and activities of Mexican Americans must be prefaced with a caveat about the heterogeneous nature of the community. The cleavages that exist in the community-especially divisions of class, national origin, and length of residence in the United States-make it more challenging to discuss their foreign policy and international stakes. As I point out later, some issues divide its members along these cleavages, thus the task of reaching a consensus on issues, goals, and strategies to advance their interests is more difficult than when a community is monolithic.
