ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the interplay between the formation of refugee identity and the process of seeking protection. The core argument is that refugee identities are politically ‘situated’ not personally ‘narrated’ and that the practice of expropriating identity has profound implications for how refugee protection is enacted.
