ABSTRACT
If the phrase ‘God himself is dead’ indicates the event of God’s negation of himself, it equally brings us back to the situation of modern philosophy with its absolutizing of finitude. It is this signification which has in effect ‘been transferred (verlegt)’ from the theological domain to that of philosophy.
