ABSTRACT

This chapter reports a course of speech and language therapy (SLT) provided to WL, a young dysphasic man, over the period of 18 months post-onset. The SLT took place in two different clinical settings and involved two different speech and language therapists with quite different emphases. As a result, the chapter will be divided into two sections. Scction One will cover the SLT that WL received in the first 7 months post-onset. In this section the major emphasis will be oil impairment-based intervention. Nevertheless, this section will conclude with reference to the ongoing psychosocial difficulties that WL experienced and some wider "political" issues. By leaving issues concerning WL's disability and handicap until the end of Section One, it is hoped that these issues will dovetail into Section Two, where intervention has been primarily directed at WL's self-advocacy and return to employment.
