ABSTRACT

This is a report of a therapy programme provided to KB, a 56-year-old man with dysphasia. The therapy was administered in three phases. Initially, from 6 months post onset, the emphasis of therapy was on syntax, phonology, and morphology. We then moved on to a therapy that involved monitoring strategies for dealing with on-line processing, complex sentences, and low frequency verbs. In the final stage we embarked on therapy to address organisational skills, in an attempt to improve KB's cohesion of ideas. Throughout all the therapies we worked to help KB to develop realistic expectations so that he could come to terms with his aphasia. Before describing the therapy programmes in detail, I will provide some background information about KB.
