ABSTRACT

Slowly, stealthily but surely, it was creeping up: the effect of ageing in the consulting room. Increasingly the therapist was witnessing either the presence of shocked family members or the provocateur of their emotion: the retiring father or husband. The latter was also shocked at his behaviour and feelings, but defensive and raging at his family’s perceived betrayal and intolerance. The star, out of kilter, had disoriented the revolving planets into a spin revealing their shadow sides too, plunging the universe into chaos. Where was the literature with bite on this subject to help me? Upon what rack could I stretch CAT to see if it could withstand and illuminate the process?
