ABSTRACT
Interpersonal communication is the primary medium for the practice of social work. Yet social work has long borrowed the tools of other disciplines, specifically psychology, in the arena of micro skills, producing a dissonance for practitioners. Our belief is that social work is a separate discipline and as such requires a specific form of interpersonal communication practice as a vehicle for its particular concern: the interface between the personal and socio-structural.
