ABSTRACT

When Steven was two, Carole, a healthy daughter, was born. Although there was relief she was normal, the pregnancy had not been consciously planned and the new arrival added to marital strain. Father’s unemployment was an extra difficulty. Placed in a daycare nursery so his mother could manage the new baby and the older sibling, Steven displayed aggressive behaviour. By the time his father left home, when he was three, Steven’s attacks on himself were so dangerous he was admitted to hospital.
