ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on the planning aspects of security problems faced by shoppers and other users of city centres. It argues that functionalist planning causes security problems and that other planning strategies are needed to make cities safer. It will review some examples of successful policies and practice from recent experience in the UK and the USA.
