In this tropical foraging society. good hunters benefit in indirect ways that translate into reprodunin' success. Such men han' more illicit sexual relationships. that in a society \\'ith natural krtility. translate into more ollspring !:ltlwred. ;\lthough their win'S and children recei\"(' no more meat than others, their children show higher slllyi\'orship, suggesting f~\\'oured treatment within the group. Thus, what looks to be altruism in good hunters. exploited by other group memhers, may instead he a succt'ssfi..l rcproductin' strategy.
