ABSTRACT

The brilliant commentaries above have given us a rich understanding of Katie and provided suggestions for how a good psychotherapist might have helped her out of the depths of her despair. Lisa Firestone (chapter 11 ) illustrates how a psychotherapist might work with a client like Katie using voice therapy. Thomas Ellis (chapter 6 ) identifies several cognitive styles and distortions in Katie’s thinking that a cognitive therapist would focus on in therapy sessions. Antoon Leenaars (chapter 7 ), Robert Fournier (chapter 9 ), and James Hollis (chapter 10 ) also discuss issues that are important from their perspectives on suicidal behavior that a therapist could explore with a client like Katie.
