ABSTRACT

It is evident that the nature of conceptual consciousness is a central topic of Philosophical Investigations. The protagonist of the text investigates knowing how to go on (to follow a rule, to determine the next term in a series) in an effort to become clearer about how he or anyone is so much as able to think conceptually at all. Beyond sensory awareness and apt differential responsiveness to our environments, how do we come to predicate concepts of objects and to be aware of ourselves as doing so? What is it or would it be to do so correctly, with ‘full justification’ before oneself and others – if, indeed, such full justification can reasonably be pursued?
