ABSTRACT

After the lost military campaign in September 1939, the Polish government went into exile in Romania, where, contrary to assurances, it was interned. Consequently, President Ignacy Mościcki, acting according to the April 1935 Constitution, appointed Władysław Raczkiewicz his successor on 29 September. A day later, Raczkiewicz appointed General Władysław Sikorski as Prime Minister, and the following day heard the oath of the new cabinet members.
