ABSTRACT

The Handbook of Fashion and Sustainability is a gathering of contributions that variously cleave to, interrogate and reimagine fashion and sustainability ideas and practices, within and towards a futures-oriented agenda. For us, this book is an indication of the emergent potential of nonlinear exploration of a field; a vindication of the power and unruliness of collaborative work; an expression of hope that fashion can – and indeed will – be different when experienced as thriving; and, moreover, that this can shape and inspire activity in the field and beyond. On a personal note, we would like to acknowledge that three children were born to our author-collaborators in the making of this book; testament, we think, to the vitality of work in this area and to its futurity – welcome!
