ABSTRACT
From virtual obscurity as a small town mayor and Governor of Alaska, a minor state politically, Sarah Palin was thrust into the national and international spotlight on 29 August 2008 when John McCain nominated her as his vice presidential running mate on the Republican ticket. And, even though the McCain–Palin ticket was defeated, this did not push Palin into obscurity – quite the contrary.
