ABSTRACT

In The Future of Technical Communication, Giammona (2004) argues that the next generation of technical communicators will need a new skill set that includes (but is not limited to) an ability to collaborate with diverse users, design visual information, and use current media tools. Today's revolutionary media tool is Web 2.0, which is internationalizing the discipline of technical communication at a breakneck pace. Web 2.0 as a concept describes the facilitation of user control of content development and distribution via the World Wide Web. More importantly, Web 2.0 encompasses global reach and collaboration with users. The question then is: In what kind of global collaborations are technical communicators in academia and business engaged or expect to engage in our current Web 2.0 age?
