ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts discussed in the preceding chapters of the book. As the authors identified, the field of event-related studies, including sports events, is entering a critical moment. The technocratic aspects of events and events management are well rehearsed: taxonomies of events and practicalities related to planning, delivery and, to a lesser extent, evaluating events are the staple of the mainstream events literature. As event educators, as well as researchers, people are reminded of the importance of transferring knowledge from research into teaching. The authors acknowledge that many event-related university courses are currently, and justifiably, vocational and practically orientated, but as Tribe suggests in relation to tourism degrees, the authors also hope to encourage students to become philosophical practitioners. The author's intention is not to plug the gaps in the events-related literature that they have identified, or to advocate any specific approaches or frameworks for future analyses.
