ABSTRACT
Global or world city research is vital for development studies for two main reasons. First, it provides critical insights on how economic globalization is organized and thereby contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of the processes through which uneven development is produced and maintained. Second, the global city paradigm’s nuanced account of the geographies of globalization and, in particular, of global economic governance, helps to correct any simple notion of a clear-cut North-South power divide.
