ABSTRACT
The chapter is divided into three parts. In the fi rst, I briefl y discuss the concepts of representativeness and effectiveness as applied to justice system institutions. In the second, I show how the series of successive reforms (or lack thereof) to two key justice system institutions in Mexico (the Supreme Court and the Public Prosecutor’s Offi ce) has produced a system that works relatively well for politicians but defi nitely not as well for ordinary citizens. In the last part, as a form of conclusion, I discuss a set of recent and ongoing reforms that may drastically alter the shape of the Mexican justice system by considerably expanding access to justice.
