ABSTRACT

Landmines must be removed to protect populations and put mine-affected countries on the path to recovery and development with post-clearance land use plans. Scholars and policy makers in international organ izations have advocated linking demining to peacebuilding and development, but only a handful of countries has actually succeeded in doing so (Harpviken and Skåra 2003; Harpviken and Isaksen 2004; GICHD 2009).
