ABSTRACT

When we go the beach we put ourselves in a primitive relationship with the world. On the broad sweep of sand, and in the presence of the enormities of sea and sky, we remove some of our clothes, and present our selves to the sunshine, the wind, space, the sand, and the salty water …. Being on the beach stimulates all our five senses: in the bright light we see the colours and ceaseless motion of the sea and sky; we feel the warm sun on our bodies, the cool breeze brushing the hair on our skin, the soft sand between our toes, the cool water; we hear the surf, the gulls, the shouts of children; we smell and taste the air and sea.
