ABSTRACT
The child with fragile X syndrome is referred to throughout this chapter as she, for simplicity and as a reminder that the condition is not confined to boys.
Fragile X syndrome is associated with a particular developmental and behavioural phenotype. Although individual children can be affected to very different degrees, they tend to share a profile of skills and weaknesses, which usually has a significant impact on communication skills.
