ABSTRACT

Given that a significant number of mobile phones feature a camera, visual mobile communication is rapidly becoming more common—by publishing camera phone photographs on the Web or with mobile apps, or messaging the photographs. Visual mobile communication is altogether a new phenomenon, as mobile communication has been visual only since the turn of the millennium. The transition is evident in the screens of mobile phones, which have transformed from small black-and-white displays portraying numbers or names into big, phone-sized, colorful, high-resolution displays. This rise in the visual and multimedia dimensions of mobile communication indicates the transformation of the mobile phone into mobile media. 1
