ABSTRACT

A number of policies establish pre-deployment requirements for military service members and units preparing for deployment. In addition to dealing with personnel, finance and training, Department of Defense (DoD) and service specific policies establish deployment medical standards and requirements for service members, DoD civilians and contractor personnel. 1 To reconcile different standards set forth in various policies and establish a single, minimum medical standard for deployment, many of the Geographic Combatant Commands (CCMDs) also establish CCMD-specific medical deployment policies. Such is the case with United States Central Command (USCENTCOM), the CCMD responsible for the 20-nation region that includes Afghanistan and Iraq.
